SlickApprentice Tattoo Artist at Studio AZ Minneapolis
Slick is a Studio AZ apprentice artist training under Andrew Fernandez, working in black & grey, realism, and fine line. Born and raised in St. Paul, he started tattooing in 2021 out of a college dorm room while studying graphic design — and once the art form took hold, the machine won out over the degree path.
“I want you relaxed and comfortable through the whole process, and confident you’re getting an original, solid piece. Tattooing is about more than something that looks good — it’s the experience and the meaning behind it.”

About Slick
Slick was born and raised in St. Paul and started tattooing in 2021, while he was in school studying graphic design. The first tattoos happened in his dorm room. He fell for the art form almost immediately, and from there it became the thing he was actually building toward — design school gave him the foundation in composition and line, and trial and error gave him the rest.
His work centers on black & grey and realism. He is also experienced with fine line and stipple work, and he is building toward Chicano style and portrait work — both already a big part of his drawing — with color somewhere further down the road. Training under Andrew Fernandez means that growth happens on a real foundation rather than by guesswork: the depth, texture, and restraint that separate a good black & grey piece from a flat one.
Outside the shop he lifts, plays video games, bakes, and cooks. He is deep into rap and R&B, will argue for Atlanta as the best show on television, and is a genuine Spider-Man fan. That easy energy is the point — he knows a tattoo can be intimidating, and he would rather you be relaxed in the chair than braced for it.
Slick's Specialties
Black & Grey
Slick’s home base: smooth shading, real contrast, and pieces built to stay readable as they age. The foundation everything else in his work sits on.
Realism
Texture, depth, and the patience to build tone slowly — the most demanding work in black & grey, and the direction he is pushing hardest under Andrew’s mentorship.
Fine Line & Stipple
A graphic designer’s hand shows here: precise linework and dotwork shading for smaller, detail-driven pieces and first tattoos.
